Advisory Engagements
The Virtual Energy Efficiency team offers streamlined usage to the Glimpse Calculator through advisory contracts. We help businesses and municipalities gain energy efficiency insights at large scale.
We’ve performed analyses on:
- State governments’ building stocks
- Utility companies’ customer portfolios
- Solution manufacturer’s geographic markets
- Financial institutions’ mortgage portfolios
- Corporations’ commercial building portfolios.
Examples of insights produced are:
- Highlighting the buildings with the largest opportunity for energy efficiency
- Quantifying the contribution from energy efficiency towards a net zero or SBTI goal
- Quantifying the risk that state and municipal Building Performance Standards pose to a portfolio
- Quantifying Scope 3 emissions across a portfolio
- Quantifying the impact of demand-side-management program strategies
Customize
One of the main benefits of working with the Virtual Energy Efficiency team to access Glimpse Calculator insights is that the process can be customized in any of the following ways:
| Tier-2 Detailed Calculations | If a building dataset has additional information that can help quantify the energy usage of each building (for example, the type of wall, window, and roof are known for most buildings), then these can be incorporated into the calculations using the Tier-2 Detailed calculation method. |
| Specific EIM Automations | If specific EIMs are being considered (for example, we want to know the impact of installing our partner’s cold-climate heat pump model in all applicable buildings in the dataset), that can be built out and the application of that EIM automated. |
| Custom Rates & Factors | If specific utility rates or emissions factors apply to a given portfolio, those can be used to calculate resulting energy cost and emissions. |
Map User Interface
The map user interface assists in viewing and interacting with the results of building stock studies or portfolio analysis studies. The map user interface results for each building are the same results described here, but add 3D building attributes to the set of data that is associated with each building.
The 3D building attributes are attained as follows:
| Step | Process Description |
|---|---|
| 1 | Latitude and longitude are found for each given address through Google’s geocoding API. If this process fails, the building and corresponding results are not displayed on the map. |
| 2 | With a longitude and latitude of the address, Constellation Navigator’s vendor for geographic information is checked for whether or not it has 3D building attributes overlapping with that latitude/longitiude pair. If so, the 3D attributes are associated with that building and the 3D building is shown on the map user interface. If not, a general building icon is shown at that location. |
| 3 | When the 3D building or general building icon is clicked, the baseline results and EIM results associated with that building are shown as a waterfall graph. |
